Hitting The Indoor Trainer

The 1st of February 2014 was the start of a change in habits for me. That indoor trainer was going to be put to use, and it has been put to use. My goal is a pretty simple one. Lose on average 2 lbs per week to reach my goal weight of 160. Starting weight was 188.5 lbs, and so far I have lost a total of 9 lbs. So that puts me currently at 179.5 in a short amount of time, but slightly off track with -2 per week. I should also add that my goal date for this is May 10th. That date was chosen as it is the weekend before DirtRags DirtFest at Raystown Lake. The first 3 weeks I lost the perfect 2 lbs. Then on the 4th week, I actually gained .5 lbs. That was a funny week because I actually trained 6 out of 7 days, plus I started watching what I eat. I followed that up this past week with a -3.5 lb loss. Again, I trained a bunch, and watched what I ate.

Now on to what I have been doing, or not doing that is working for me. You see I'm not all that crazy about dieting, and I pretty much eat what I like. I just eat slightly less, and drink more water. The thing that's easy for me to give up is soda. You can lose weight just by giving up those useless calories, and I'm proof of that.  When I say I watch what I eat, it's more of a I make better choices when I eat. I choose cereal (I like cereal) over eggs & bacon 5 days of the week. On the weekends I'll eat whatever breakfast I want to. I could probably lose more quickly if I continued through the weekend, but hey weekends are for living it up a little.

The trainer in the basement is my cardio blaster. I actually enjoy using the thing when it helps me to reach a goal, or two. It number one builds my engine on the bike for when I take it to the trails, or roads outside. Number two, it burns about 500 calories in a one hour session. Let's not forget that the metabolism carries well beyond the hour on the trainer. Workout videos are my key to being able to use it. They are motivating, and they offer a structured workout. I have an 8 week series of DVD's to work thru right now. Two days a week I train with these, and it's a different workout each of those days for the 8 weeks. I'll add in one, or two of my other collection in during the week. Usually I add an easy spin day, which is the hardest of the days to get thru the hour. It helps to watch a documentary, or a show of some kind on this day to pass the time. Just listening to music doesn't seem to work for me on easy days. I find myself looking at the clock too much if I try just music.

Okay, so now you're wondering, what is this Dirtfest thing I mentioned above. Well, it's 4 days of pure mountain biking bliss on some sweet ass single track. It's camping, riding, cooking, drinking, campfires, listening to music, demo riding fancy bikes, and just nutty fun with 3000 other like minded individuals. We'll have a group of 20 - 30 folks in our campground alone. Did I mention it's a festival, and festivals are good times!

Enough said, see yinz on the trails!
